From the Candidate:
I am Ben Montecillo and I’m the Executive Director for Scholarships & Financial Aid at the University of Houston.
Before arriving at UH, I started my career in financial aid at Texas Tech University. I then moved on to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center where my views on financial aid expanded considerably. Being able to see a different sector and approach was invaluable in helping me grow into a better Financial Aid Administrator.
Like many of you, TASFAA is where I first started my financial aid association work. I’ve been fortunate to have served on numerous committees (Social Media, Communications, Electronic Initiatives/Website and Early Awareness). I am your current TASFAA Secretary.
To have the opportunity to serve TASFAA as a representative-at-large board member, is truly an honor for me. Many of my mentors and dearest colleagues have served in this capacity. Knowing the history of TASFAA and those who have come before me, I take this responsibility very seriously.
I seek this position because I recognize the importance for us to continue to lead and be a voice to represent the needs of all financial aid administrators in Texas. TASFAA has the opportunity to shape policy and advocate for the resources financial aid administrators need to be successful in helping our students.
I believe my leadership experiences in TASFAA, regionally and nationally, offered me a perspective that can help the TASFAA Board as issues are discussed.
If elected, I promise to represent all our members and seek out new ways to help you grow professionally. Having worked at multiple institutions across the state, I have a deep appreciation for the uniqueness of our members. This is one of our great strengths and I admire how all of us still have TASFAA pride no matter which part of the state we hail from.
I humbly ask for your support and thank you for your consideration of my candidacy.
Best wishes,
Ben Montecillo, MPA, FAAC®
